COST-EFFECTIVE FILTER MAINTENANCE SERVICE OFFERS OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE
The water treatment plant began operating in 1954. The plant utilizes a BIF Wheeler Underdrain System. To accommodate the City of Warren's Filter Maintenance requirements, UNIFILT was employed to refurbish the filters by replacing the attrited material with new Support Gravel, and UNI-RATE MEDIA (a low Uniformity Coefficient system), consisting of high-grade Filter Sand and Anthrafilt Filter Anthracite. By employing UNIFILT's proven techniques and utilizing our custom-built equipment and highly-skilled experiences personnel, UNIFILT was capable of performing the maintenance task with minimum disruption of plant activities throughout the rehabilitation.
"Momentum is gathering behind legislation for a comprehensive plant to protect and purify the nation's water supplies."
The Porcelain Spheres in the pyramidal depressions were cleaned or replaced on an "as needed" basis. The (12) Dual-Media Filters are arranged into two rows of six each along the filter gallery. Using the standard filtration rate of 2 gallons/sq. ft./minute, each filter has a capacity of 1.875 MGD with a total plant capacity of 50% overload.
SUPPLY SOURCE
Supply is obtained from the Mosquito Creek Reservoir, located approximately 3 miles northeast of the city. The reservoir was formed by the construction of the Mosquito Creek Dam by the U.S. Corps of Engineers during 1943 and 1944. The reservoir is approximately 10 ½ miles in length, 1 1/3 miles wide, has an area of 9,040 acres and a capacity of 34 billion gallons at elevation 904 above sea level. Mosquito Creek is ultimately a tributary of the Mississippi River with outfall into the Gulf of Mexico.
At the present time, the City of Warren has a fifty-year contract with the U.S. Government stipulating that the city has the right to draw from the reservoir, over a period of a year, an average daily amount of 16 million gallons a day; an unlimited amount may by taken on any one day.
ANTHRAFILT
Anthracite Filter Media
UNIFILT CORPORATION offers a premium quality high density anthracite that offers these advantages:
- High density anthracite is harder and less friable. It can withstand the extreme turbulence of a backwash with minimal attrition.
- It is less porous, offering fewer locations for biological growth and air entrapment. As a result, high density anthracite filter media is less prone to "wash out" during a backwash.
- Because high density anthracite can accommodate higher wash rates, filtered solids are more readily cleaned from the media. The higher wash water rate produces greater shearing forces at the surface of the media, thoroughly cleaning the media of filtered solids and other contaminants.
- Fewer fines are generated during shipment and installation of high density anthracite.
Anthrafilt Anthracite Filter Media is Listed under NATIONAL SANITATION FOUNDATION Standard 61 - Process Media. Anthrafilt is a registered trademark.
UNIFILT's filtration media exceeds today's requirements in preparation for tomorrow's requirements by its high-quality materials and technologically advanced methods of processing and installation of these materials.
UNIFILT is a service-oriented firm engaging in the manufacturing and distribution of Filtering Materials, and Subcontracting of the Removal and Installation of Filtering Materials.
