Performance Update of Subcontract
Through a subcontract with DiCarlo Construction Company, we completed work of the removal and replacement of the existing filtering materials the filter at the Hansen Treatment Plant , Phase I, having a total filter area of 8,400 square feet, to upgrade the facility and accommodate the District's needs during construction of Phase II.
Additionally, we will be furnishing products and service for the new filtering materials and installation necessary for Phase II, which is scheduled for on-line completion by the summer of 1990, and will have a filter area of 4,760 square feet.
In the 12 Filters rehabilitated, five (5) contained mixed-media systems, while the remaining seven (7) utilized dual-media. The 12 Filters were re-bedded using a high-rate, dual-media system, as specified by Black & Veatch, Engineers-Architects, Kansas City, Missouri.
Growth of the Water District
Water District No. 1 of Johnson City is preparing to move into the third phase of its Master Expansion Plan. The expansion will add an additional 25 mgd to the District's daily treatment and distribution capacity, and is the third of four (4) planned 25 mgd increments to be added to the system, as called for in the District's Master Plan.
The District provides water for about 250,000 persons in Northeast Johnson County, one of the fastest growing suburbs in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, and is the second largest water utility in the State of Kansas. Equal to the distance from Kansas City to Washington, D.C. the District has a total of more than 1,300 miles of transmission and distribution mains.
Expansion of Distribution and Treatment Capacity:
Phase I - to 80 million gallons per day
Phase II - to 105 million gallons per day
Phase III - to 130 million gallons per day
