MODERNIZATION OF SYSTEM
Division Avenue Water Treatment Plant
Cleveland, OH

UNIFILT was awarded the Subcontract to remove the existing filtering materials, furnish new filtering materials, and install the new materials, and has a key role in the renovation of the Division Avenue Water Treatment Plant

“UNIFILT’s Removal & Installation Service is a cost-effective bid alternative.”

The $113M rehabilitation project involves restoring Cleveland’s 72 year-old Division Avenue Water Treatment Plant to its original design capacity of 150 mgd, and is being accomplished in two (2) phases, to allow the city to retain 50 percent of the plant’s capacity throughout the construction period. One-half of the filters were renovated in Phase I and we completed our portion of the media replacement work in December 1988. Plans have been made for UNIFILT to mobilize to commerce work on Phase II.

RE-Bed of Filter Media “High-Rate Dual-Media”
Unifilt furnished the “high-rate dual-media” system, consisting of a 10-inch depth, of a specially graded gravel bed, 3-inch depth of Torpedo Sand, 12-inch depth of Silica Sand, and 15-inch depth of “Anthrafilt” Filter Anthracite.

Restoration Reduces Capital Cost
The Division Avenue Plant is the oldest of four water treatment plants operated by Cleveland and has been in continuous service since 1917. The plant is located on the shore of Lake Erie, and the facility includes a raw water pump-house, chemical building, mixing chambers, and flocculation/settling basins, 36 filtration cells, and a finished water pump station.

By remodeling and modernizing an existing plant, Cleveland will be increasing its water production at a capital cost of approximately one-half that of a comparably sized new plant while also improving the quality of delivered water.
